The Fountain of Youth
If there ever was a generation who would put each resource known to occupy against the challenge of defeating aging, it might be the baby boomer generation. Naturally the terribly rooted want in humankind to stop or turn back growing older is as old as time itself. We have sufficient proof of that in literature.
From The Fountain to Youth to Peter Pan, there were many efforts to just stubbornly say "I wont grow up" as if stamping ones foot and refusing to take part can really keep us from growing older. Baby boomers have always had a love affair with youth. It isn't any doubt very rooted in their explosive teen and twenties years in which this generation became almost the middle of the universe as youth culture ruled the country if not the world in the 60s and 70s. That sort of thing can convince you that you're the generation that would never grow old. But, naturally, the baby boomer generation has grown old. But the interest in staying colourful and active has led to the explosive expansion of the exercise and diet industries. Because if baby boomers can't stop aging from occuring, they can at least not seem old or act like it either. From a medical stand point, naturally, there's never been an anti age medication or tablet. Medical science saw outstanding changes and had discoveries in numerous areas of analysis and study. Boomers were entirely prepared to back any medical work being done that could end up in dumping aging or at least in slowing its relentless onset.
But medical science hasn't found any sorcery potion that would cause aging to stop or to reverse its effects. Even if aging may be stopped at some level on the physical level, you have got to wonder whether that is practical given aging that has an effect on the all of what a person is. We think we know that we do not just age in body, we age in angles, in maturity and in our aspiration and how we view our goals in life.
This has as much to do with the cycles of life from youth to parenthood to middle age and then to retirement as it does with physical changes in our bodies. So if you are in your 40's, being a parent or a partner is regarded the suitable place to be.
So too, at seventy or eighty, we are predicted to be sensible old grandmother and grandpa. Our behavior in society, what we price and what we look for from others is anticipated to be driven by our age in life which is a subset of getting older. If aging was somehow defeated completely, that whole cycle of life would be totally re-appraised. If you knew you would live two hundred years instead of eighty or ninety years, how would you plan your folks, your career and your finances? The good reports is while baby boomers fight aging with an enthusiasm, also they are able of growing into their senior years with a lot to give back to society.
So just as boomers have been had a big effect on society thru each other decade, when they agree that they're going to join that aging process, they're going to be a great generation of grandmas and granddads as well.
